The Writer

About

Mattia Passaro

Screenwriter  ·  UK

Writing has always been a strong passion of mine, and it's something that subsequently took over my life during the Covid Pandemic, when I realized that it's something I wanted to actively take more seriously.

I threw myself into the art of screenwriting, ambitious and slightly naive, scouring YouTube how-to's and screenwriting articles all in an attempt to sharpen my craft. It's something that I still haven't stopped doing, and it's my goal to be a better writer than I was a week, a month or a year ago.

My work largely focuses on the psychology of characters and their inner turmoil. It's something that has appeared in both of my features, as well as other shorts that I've written too. While my characters are also placed in perhaps outlandish or maybe even extreme circumstances, I also try to find the relatability in that, so that the audience and reader can latch onto something, so they can ultimately relate to them on a certain level.

I have a strong passion for photography and directing too, which I believe feeds into the visual style of my writing. When I write, I always picture the scene in my head first. I ignore the "can it be done?" or "is this even possible?" of it all, and if it looks good and fits with the story's narrative, I'll write it. In an industry that is technologically evolving every day, the only worry in my head is when, and not how.

My work is a reflection of myself, as with any creative. A window into the soul, or some cliché bullshit like that. It's a part of me, and of my opinions, and it reflects how I view the world.
